Is EVO designed to compete with the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 systems?
No and Yes. EVO was designed to be the all-in-one open-source device. The gaming aspect of the system is geared toward causal gaming, but EVO can play robust 3-D games too. Most mainstream users haven’t heard about open-source games, and EVO would be a great platform for experiencing open-source games. Open-source games on EVO have been enhanced and configured to work with no installation effort on the users end.
Can EVO survive without big name publishers or big name games?
When we set out to build this system five years ago, games, media, storage, DVR, phone, and PC were the key features. We would love to attract the big publishers and big title games similar to the other consoles. We will work to secure as many commercial titles we can get our hands on. EVO has dual markets. Niche open-source interests and mainstream users looking for a product that can reduce cost by converging multi-devices. Trust us . . . we will continue to grow our game selection. Give us some time. The best is to come!
Does EVO support Amiga games or Akimbo?
No. EVO no longer supports either platform.
What is EVO?
EVO is the convergence of the PC, Cloud, phone, Internet TV, game console, DVR, and media. EVO was designed with open-source software. Envizions will release the source code to the free version of the software that can be freely distributed, modified, and repackaged. Users can install it on their personal computers or laptops. Envizions will maintain the project by providing support and upgrades, creating new code and accessories, and providing system hardware. Envizions is currently working on the Mirrors Evolution X software. This is a more robust version of the free software. Mirrors Evolution X is the software that has custom applications and features.
Why develop for EVO?
Developers can use EVO as a platform that helps drive sales and reaches out to other developers to help create new amazing projects. Never before has Linux had a platform that catered to both the mainstream and open-source audiences. Envizions will work to promote the system, services, and features.
Will EVO be available in retail stores?
Maybe. But our current focus is to sell direct. If an opportunity opens for EVO to be in stores in the near future, it would be a great step forward.
Why does EVO hardware seem under-matched compared to current consoles?
EVO was designed with convergence in mind. Unfortunately, we can’t please everyone. The hardware is important, but look at the overall system and benefits.
How was Envizions started, and why haven’t I heard of Envizions before?
Derrick Samuels, with a few family members and friends, started the company back in January 2004. Believe it or not, the company was started with $5 in contributions. Mr. Samuels was laid off, but through a lot of work and determination Envizions is still moving forward. Envizions has been largely in the development phase for most of those four years.
Is EVO a console or PC?
It’s both.
What is the difference from Mirrors Evolution and Mirrors Evolution X?
Mirrors Evolution is the blue print for development for Mirrors Evolution X. After Mirrors Evolution X is complete, every EVO unit that was purchased after April 19, 2009, will get a free Mirrors Evolution X upgrade for free. Mirrors Evolution X is more stable and robust.
